BUSINESS AND OFFICE ADMINISTRATION 1 (BOA1)

This module prepares students for the role of receptionist or secretary by focusing on the essential responsibilities required to deliver effective front-line support within an organisation. Students will learn how to create and maintain a safe and welcoming reception area, assist customers, and manage telephone, facsimile, and electronic communications with professionalism. The programme also covers best practices for handling inquiries, directing visitors, and applying security procedures in line with organisational policies. Additional topics include mail handling, record management systems, the duties of a secretary, an introduction to computing, navigating the Windows Operating System, typing skills, and producing professional business documents and reports.

BOOKKEEPING TO TRIAL BALANCE (BKTB)

This module introduces students to the fundamentals of bookkeeping and accounting, covering key principles such as source documents, double-entry rules, subsidiary journals, the general ledger, inventory systems, banking, and debtor/creditor reconciliations. By developing these core skills, students will be well-prepared for roles such as Accounts Clerk, Debtors Clerk, or Creditors Clerk. The module also provides practical training in business basics, Value Added Tax, recording cash and credit transactions, maintaining debtor and creditor accounts, performing supplier and general ledger reconciliations, managing bank reconciliations, and drafting financial statements.

BUSINESS LITERACY (BUSL)

This module builds students’ confidence in both spoken and written business communication while strengthening essential workplace numeracy skills. Students will learn to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, equations, and interest rates, as well as measure, analyse, and communicate workplace data effectively. Covering topics such as work readiness, business communication, and business numeracy, the programme equips students to apply these skills with confidence in professional environments.

MARKETING MANAGEMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS (MMPR)

This module introduces students to the core principles of marketing management and their role in driving business success. You’ll learn to distinguish between consumer needs and wants, apply marketing models, and understand the differences between goods and services. The course traces the evolution of marketing, explores the marketing concept in depth, and highlights the relevance of both micro and macro marketing. Students will study the internal and external marketing environments, competitive advantage, and the functions that support effective marketing. Key focus areas include developing strategies around the four elements of the marketing mix — Product, Place, Price, and Promotion — along with the role of public relations and mass communication. The programme concludes with integrating these elements into a strategic marketing plan.

BUSINESS LAW AND ADMINISTRATIVE PRACTICE (BLAP)

This module equips students with the skills needed to excel as a receptionist or secretary, providing effective front-line support in any organisation. You’ll learn how to manage a safe and welcoming reception area, assist customers, and handle telephone, facsimile, and electronic communications with professionalism. The programme also covers best practices for responding to inquiries, directing visitors, and applying security procedures in line with organisational policies. Additional areas of study include mail handling, record management systems, the role of a secretary, basic computing, navigating the Windows Operating System, typing proficiency, and producing professional business documents and reports.

COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING (CMGT)

This module introduces students to the principles of managerial accounting, with a focus on managing inventory and overhead costs in a manufacturing environment. Students will develop practical skills in job costing, budgeting, standard costing, contract accounting, and process costing, while also gaining a solid foundation in financial management principles.

BUSINESS AND OFFICE ADMINISTRATION 2 (BOA2)

This module prepares students for careers as receptionists or secretaries by focusing on the essential duties needed to deliver effective front-desk support. Students will learn to maintain a professional, safe, and welcoming reception area, assist customers with confidence, and manage office equipment and ergonomics. The programme covers key areas such as records management, filing systems, reception duties, customer service, and coordinating travel and event arrangements. In addition, students will develop skills in workplace self-management, banking and cash control, and applying the business information manual to everyday office operations.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND LABOUR RELATIONS (HRLR)

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the HR function within an organisation. Students will explore core concepts such as strategising, structuring, and planning HR activities, along with recruitment, selection, appointment, placement, and induction processes. The course also covers performance and compensation management, workplace health and safety, and the principles of career management and human resource development. Additional focus areas include organisational behaviour, employment relations, and the frameworks established by the Labour Relations Act for collective bargaining and dispute resolution.

ECONOMICS (ECON)

This module introduces students to the fundamentals of microeconomics and macroeconomics, exploring how major economic events such as interest rate changes, inflation, and unemployment affect everyday life. Students will study the roles of households, businesses, government, the foreign sector, and financial institutions, while gaining a solid understanding of demand and supply dynamics, equilibrium, and pricing strategies. Key topics include determinants of demand and supply, price elasticity, marginal utility, and the causes, impacts, and controls of inflation. The course also examines different economic systems, the money market, monetary economics, international trade and finance, and labour economics, giving students a comprehensive view of the economic environment.

BUSINESS AND OFFICE ADMINISTRATION 3 (BOA3)

This module quips students with the skills needed to excel as receptionists or secretaries, focusing on the essential responsibilities required to support front-office operations effectively. Students will learn how to maintain a professional and welcoming reception area, greet and assist customers with confidence, and assess their needs accurately. The programme covers key administrative functions such as managing office supplies, monitoring stock levels, processing orders, and overseeing distribution, along with handling petty cash, understanding insurance principles, and applying internal control concepts. Additional areas of study include customer service principles, factors influencing satisfaction, human resource development, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, business structures, and workplace readiness — ensuring graduates are fully prepared for professional office environments.

FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (FNST)

This module equips students with core financial accounting and reporting skills, from recording business transactions and managing depreciable assets to finalising and interpreting accounts. Students will gain practical experience in preparing financial statements for sole proprietorships and partnerships, conducting internal reports for corporations, and developing an understanding of IFRS for SMMEs, including the preparation of cash flow statements.

MANAGEMENT (MGMT)

This module introduces students to the core principles of management, defining its key concepts, distinguishing between management levels, and outlining the essential tasks of managers. Students will examine the evolution of management theory and its connection to the business environment, while developing practical skills in planning, decision-making, information management, organisational development, communication, leadership, motivation, and control. The programme also addresses contemporary business challenges, giving students valuable insights into the demands faced by modern managers.
